What Does a Freight Forwarder Do?

A freight forwarder arranges shipment or freight transportation for a company, ensuring the goods they transport arrive at the intended destination or to the importer in good condition.

How does freight forwarding work? What is the freight forwarding process?

Forwarders are the intermediary between a company that makes a shipment and the final destination for the goods. They usually control a large volume of shipments, even from one country to another, so they are a major component in triangular relationships.

The services that freight forwarders offer include the negotiation of freight charges with the ocean carrier on behalf of the shipper, booking cargo space onboard ocean vessels, arranging cargo insurance, transport and labor arrangement, and inland transportation of goods from the port of destination.

Why is it profitable to use freight forwarder services?

Freight forwarders can be beneficial to your business in many ways, such as managing your register more effectively, getting you the best local and international shipping price, and protecting high-value or time-sensitive shipments on the way.

How much does freight forwarding cost?

There are a variety of factors that determine the freight rate. These include the mode of transportation, weight, size, distance, and the location of pickup and delivery.

As a general rule, the more freight you move, the cheaper it is. This factor plays a big role in the freight rates charged to people and companies.

Is there a minimum amount which I can ship?

Yes, there is.
By Air: 100kg. By ocean: 1CBM.

How do you get me a better deal?

In addition to offering competitive pricing based on services needed by a customer, freight forwarders can also lower costs by consolidating cargo from other customers into one full container load.

This allows for consolidation of multiple customers’ cargo into one full container load (LCL).

What is your shipping guarantee?

Shipping Guarantees (SG) are issued to assist the importer in getting the goods delivered. On receipt of notification of arrival of a ship carrying the goods, the consignee will ask whether the bank has received the appropriate shipping documentation, particularly the bill of lading.

What about breakability in shipment?

The box should be the correct size and made from high-quality materials. Bubble wrap and padding should be used inside the box. Carry it carefully.

Do you have freight insurance or do I need it?

Manufacturing companies, importers, exporters, and freight forwarders purchase ocean cargo insurance. Cargo coverage for shipping by sea was originally designed to protect products being transported by sea.

The insurance provides protection against transit losses to the shipment. With freight insurance, a third-party company looks after your cargo. Basically, it does not consider the carrier’s fault, just damage or loss proof.

The insurance can even cover untimely delivery, depending on the policy. You are responsible for governing and negotiating the terms of the contracts.

Freight insurance provides protection for freight forwarders and carriers. Alternatively, cargo insurance protects the sender.

Do you pack products?

Yes, we do. If there is a need, we do double packaging especially for fragile items.

Can you help negotiate with overseas vendors?

Yes, our company does negotiations with the suppliers, and makes all the reliable arrangements for your shipment.

What is the minimum weight for air cargo?

The minimum weight for air cargo is 100kg.

What documents are required for air freight?

Commercial Invoice. A commercial invoice is a bill for the goods from the seller to the buyer. Airway Bill. Air freight shipments require airway bills. Packing List. Bill of Lading. Dangerous Goods Certificate. Proforma Invoice. Export Declaration.

What is customs clearance?

Importing and exporting goods internationally requires customs clearance. Once a shipment has been cleared, the shipper must provide evidence that customs duties have been paid in order for the shipment to be processed.

What is completed customs clearance?

Once the items have cleared customs, they are available for transportation to their eventual destination.

Do I need a freight forwarder for my e-commerce store?

Having a professional freight forwarder allows you to focus on operations. Online retailers generally operate on a lean and mean budget.

An eCommerce company’s growth is directly dependent upon its ability to offer their customers quality items at affordable prices each and every day, regardless of whether the provider is an owner/operator or has multiple employees.
